Johnson City police announced Thursday the arrest of a man on charges that he shot two people on Dec. 21 in the parking lot of a local church.
In the release, police identified Cavonte James Bridwell, 21, 1484 Milligan Highway, Apt. 18, as the man who fired the shots, injuring Bethany McClellan, 21, 501 Pardee St., and a 17-year-old male, who was not identified.
An officer responded to Johnson City Medical Center where he observed McClellan, the juvenile and two witnesses pull into the emergency room parking lot in a white minivan.
The juvenile told police that three black males in an older model red four-door Ford car approached their minivan and fired shots in the parking lot of Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 1001 S. Broadway St.
McClellan was shot in the left arm and the juvenile was shot in his right hand, according to the police report.
Bridwell was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of reckless endangerment.
He was taken to Washington County Detention Center on Thursday, where he was arraigned and placed on $70,000 bond.
Bridwell’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 2 at 9 a.m.
