A Science Hill High School student was found with a knife at the school's alternative center Tuesday when he was searched for other charges, Johnson City police said in a news release.
The 16-year-old boy was taken into custody at the Henry Johnson building on West Market Street on a juvenile attachment issued by Carter County Juvenile Court.
A search revealed a pocketknife hidden in an inside pocket of his athletic shorts, which were under other clothing, police said.
Johnson City police charged him with unlawful possession of a weapon.
He was held in the Regional Juvenile Detention Center for the Carter County attachment and scheduled for a Johnson City Juvenile Court appearance on the weapon charge today.
