The Johnson City Power Board’s board of directors on Tuesday unanimously approved Jeff Dykes’ contract as the utility’s new chief executive officer.

The four-year contract will go into effect on Jan. 1 when Dykes takes the helm of the utility.

Dykes will be paid an annual base salary of $160,000 and a contribution of $10,000 to deferred compensation.

Benefits include use of the corporate membership to either The Johnson City Country Club or The Blackthorn, a relocation allowance of up to $6,000 – $2,000 of which will be paid in advance, with the remaining balance reimbursed based on actual expenses – and a one-time $10,000 housing assistance payment for relocation purposes.

Dykes will be leaving nearby Newport Utilities, where he serves as general manager.

In other business, board members William Coleman Jr. and Joe Grandy were recognized for their years of service. Both members are stepping down from their posts.

Coleman served for more than eight years with the board on a number of committees, including acting as chairman of the Human Resources Committee and Executive Search Committee.

Grandy served for more than five years with the board. During his tenure, he served on a number of committees, including acting as chairman of the Rate Committee and Underground/Economic Development Committee.

The Johnson City Commission will appoint two representatives to fill the vacant spots.
