A Johnson City man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly stole a motorcycle from a local shop and other items from Goodwill.
According to Johnson City police, Christopher J. Mitchell, 38, 103 Bill Booth Road, Apt. 10, was charged after employees of Jim’s Motorcycles saw a man load a Yamaha motorcycle into the back of a white Dodge truck without permission.
Employees were able to recover the motorcycle before the driver drove away heading toward South North Street, according to police.
Police were asked to pursue charges “even though the motorcycle was recovered and undamaged,” according to the report.
Employees at Goodwill, 2606 W. Market St., reported a theft of merchandise from behind the building later the same day. Police said the vehicle description given by Goodwill employees matched the vehicle involved in the attempted motorcycle theft.
A tag number was reported by witnesses who identified the truck, which was located in Mitchell’s driveway after police searched the area. Mitchell was reportedly unloading merchandise matching the missing items from Goodwill, according to police.
Goodwill did not wish to pursue charges, according to Johnson City police.
Mitchell faces one count each of theft over $1,000 and theft under $500.
He was being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a combined $11,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court today at 1:30 p.m.
