A Johnson City man already incarcerated in the Washington County Detention Center on stolen vehicle and burglary charges received more charges after calling a relative from jail to dispose of other stolen items, according to a police press report.
According to the report, Jonathan E. Estep, 26, 1905 Knob Creek Road, who had already been arrested after accident on April 2 in a vehicle that was later determined to be stolen, was charged after he reportedly called his mother and asked her to get rid of a backpack stored in the attic in their shared apartment.
Police went to the above mentioned address and Estep’s mother consented to a search of the attic.
According to the report, police located the backpack, which contained two GPS units, an umbrella, a belt and many electrical cords.
In the April 2 incident, police said they recovered several GPS units from the stolen vehicle. It was later determined that those units had been stolen from vehicles in Johnson City.
Estep was charged with burglary of motor vehicle and theft and was being held at the detention center on $75,500 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on May 28.
