Johnson City police arrested a 54-year-old Montgomery Street man early Friday on a charge that he stole items from a vehicle parked at 150 W. State of Franklin Road in downtown Johnson City.
According to the release, Kerry Kidd, 800 Montgomery St., was spotted by witnesses spotted Kidd entering an unlocked vehicle in downtown Johnson City and taking items from it. A witness called 911 and gave dispatchers a description, and police found Kidd a short distance away with the stolen items.
Police said they had seen Kidd earlier, but when they located him he was carrying a CD case, which he initially told police contained rap music.
A Tom Tom GPS was found in Kidd’s back pocket, which matched the charger found in the vehicle.
He was charged with theft of motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia, as police found a glass pipe with burnt ends, a large measuring tape and small tools on his person. Kidd told allegedly told police that he smokes crack cocaine.
He was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $6,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance Monday.
