ELIZABETHTON – A methamphetamine laboratory dump site was found Monday at the end of Hampton View Road in Hampton.
Lt. Mike Little, Lt. Patrick Johnson and Sgt. Harmon Duncan of the Carter County Sheriff's Department responded to the discovery. Duncan said the officers found discarded items contained in a black plastic garbage bag. Some of the contents had spilled from the bag.
Duncan said the contents were consistent with a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory. The items included two plastic "cook" bottles, two gas generator bottles, a glass jar with traces of ammonium nitrate, funnels, empty packages that were labeled that they contained ammonium nitrate, clear plastic hose, salt containers, Coleman lantern fuel, numerous cut lithium batteries with raw lithium strips exposed, drain cleaner, and an empty box and blister packs of Claritin-D cold pills containing psuedoephedrine, a important ingredient in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
The Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force disposal truck was called to the scene and all chemical hazards were processed by Carter County Methamphetamine technicians.
Duncan said the investigation was continuing.
