ELIZABETHTON – A stepmother was arrested over the weekend on a charge she stole her stepson’s electric guitar and amplifier, police said.
Keyla Lynn Lyons, 21, 229 Long Hollow Road, was arrested by Lt. Tim Horne and Deputy Ashley McCall of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department on a charge of theft over $500. She is scheduled to answer the charge in Sessions Court on Feb. 19.
Horne said the investigation began Jan. 16, when Edgar Lyons reported his electric guitar, valued at $500, and a black amplifier, valued at $80, were stolen from his residence. Lyons told investigators he suspected his stepmother had taken the items.
After receiving a tip that Mrs. Lyons was staying at 229 Long Hollow Road, Horne found her there and said she admitted to taking the guitar and amp. He said she told him she had taken the equipment to a man in Johnson City.
Horne contacted the man by telephone and the man told him he did have possession of the guitar and amp. The equipment was returned to the sheriff’s department, where Mr. Lyons identified the items as belonging to him.
