An Elizabethton man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly stole a check from a residence in Johnson City on Nov. 30, according to a police news release.
According to the release, Huston Hartley, 20, 149 Mill Pond Road, was charged after he reportedly added his name beside the name on the check and cashed it at a check-cashing business.
Police said Hartley gave police another person’s name and birth date Jan. 16, attempting to avoid being arrested.
He was charged with two counts of theft over $500, one count of forgery over $500 and one count of identity theft.
Hartley was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and was being held on $25,000 bond.
