Miles Cross Greene made his entrance into the world a little earlier than his mom, Amy, and dad, Brett, expected, but his birthday is sure to be memorable as he was the first baby born at Franklin Woods Community Hospital in Johnson City in the new year.
Weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces and 20 inches long, Miles arrived at 1:13 a.m., which threw off the couple’s initial Jan. 14 due date.
In fact, the couple said they had already scheduled a C-section in preparation, but little Miles had a mind of his own.
The Greenes arrived at Franklin Woods around 9:30 p.m. Monday and were not even sure that Miles would be showing up until they received word later that he was on his way.
“Initially the plan was that he was going to be born sometime between 2 and 3 (a.m.) and then when we got into the operating room and when he came out the staff realized that it was 1:13 (a.m.) on 1/1/13, so they’re all pretty excited about that,” Brett said.
Born with bright red hair, already mimicking the traits of his older sister, Keeley, 5, and older brother, Braden, 2 1/2 , Amy said Miles was definitely a fun surprise in the family’s laid back New Year’s Eve plans.
“Honestly, with a 5-year-old and a 2 1/2-year-old, sleep is pretty precious, so we didn’t really have plans to stay up till 6 ’o clock this morning, but ... it was a blessing for sure and a pleasant surprise,” Amy said. “We’re just thrilled. We’re just ... so blessed to have three healthy ones and to start a new year with our little baby. We’re certainly in love. Our family is complete.”
Miles was several hours ahead of the first baby born in Wellmont Health System’s local hospitals.
Emily Nicole Prokhnevskiy was born to Petr Prokhnevskiy and Svitlana Melyna at Bristol Regional Medical Center at 5:54 a.m., weighing 7 pounds, 5 ounces and 18 inches long.
According to a Wellmont news release, the family celebrated Emily’s birth by skyping with the child’s grandmother in the Ukraine. She is the couple’s first child.
