ELIZABETHTON – A mother and son were arrested by Deputy Robert Hughes of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department on assault charges on Wednesday afternoon after the mother allegedly threatened her son’s girlfriend and girlfriend’s mother with a sword.
Valerie A. Teaster, 52, 2736 Siam Road, was charged with aggravated assault. Her son, Terry L. Teaster Jr., 20, also of 2736 Siam Road, was charged with aggravated domestic assault.
Hughes said he was dispatched to the residence after Kim Tolley said she had gone there to pick up her daughter, Jennifer Bradley. Bradley had called her mother and said Terry Teaster had choked her.
Hughes said Tolley told him that when she arrived, Valerie Teaster and her son came out of the residence. She said Valerie Teaster was armed with a sword and exposed the blade and threatened to use it.
Tolley said she and her daughter got in her vehicle and started to leave. She said Terry Teaster threw a brick that struck the back of her vehicle.
When Hughes went to the residence, he said Terry Teaster was not there. When he informed Valerie Teaster that she was under arrest, he said she claimed she had carried the sword in self-defense.
Hughes said Terry Teaster was found a short time later and arrested on the assault charge, which he said was placed because Bradley had visible choke marks on her neck.
Both mother and son are scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on Feb. 1.
