I would like to comment on the Jan. 12 letter by Bertram S. Allen Jr. concerning Vietnam veterans. Lighten up Bert, it’s only a license plate. The last thing Vietnam era veterans need to do is dispute each other’s contribution or importance to the war effort. There were many different groups serving in any number of theaters, each supporting the other. No one’s contribution was more important than another’s. Remember the phrase: “All gave some, some gave all.”You indicated in your letter, the tip of the spear arrived in 1965, but let me assure you men of all branches of service had been there long before then. The first (American) casualty recognized was James Davis of Livingston. James was killed in action on Dec. 22, 1961. He was in a support unit and was ambushed while serving with the 3rd Radio Research Unit. THOMAS WHITSONJohnson City
