ELIZABETHTON – A 4-year-old child died Thursday afternoon from injuries he received when he was struck by a dump truck at the intersection of Broad and Lynn streets.
Capt. Joy Markland of the Elizabethton Police Department said the child had the only injury in the accident. She said the department would release further details on Friday. She said the department's Special Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was investigating the accident.
Police and other emergency responders were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m.
She said under the department's standard protocol, the Tennessee Highway Patrol was also involved in the investigation because the dump truck is a commercial vehicle.
The intersection is one of the busiest in Elizabethton and was closed as officers conducted their immediate investigation of the crash.
