Thursday, December 12, 7:00 pm - 9:00pmOn December 12 at 7 pm there will be a presentation of the popular Health Education Series “Anxiety and Depression” by Dr. Tim Urbin. Already well-known to the Health Education Series audience, Dr. Urbin is back by popular demand to discuss these two increasingly serious public health issues. “Anxiety is the most common mental health disorder in America, affecting approximately 40 million people or 18 percent of the population age 18 and over. Anxiety disorders cost the USA more than 42 billion dollars per year. Depression is the major cause of disability in America ages 15-44.3 years. That’s close to 6.5% of the population. Nearly one half of those diagnosed with anxiety disorders are also diagnosed with depression. With major holidays the anxiety and depression levels of many people affected with these orders will spike. We thought this December event should focus on these mental health issues that are affecting more and more families and individuals,” said Doris Stickley of the Bristol Public Library. “We hope a large audience will turn out to listen and learn more about causes, treatments, and hopes for the future.”The Health Education Series will be in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room at 7 PM on December 12. The event is open to the public. The Health Education Series is a partnership of the Bristol Residency Program of the Quillen College of Medicine, Wellmont Health Systems, and the Bristol Public Library.
