With a chance to win at the end of regulation, Patrick Good missed badly on a 3-point shot.He and the rest of his David Crockett teammates kept playing on, and by the end of the night Good totaled a game-high 32 points to lead the Pioneers to a 64-62 overtime win over Daniel Boone on Friday night at Bobby Snyder Gym.“That was the greatest game I’ve ever played in,” Good said as the Pioneers improved to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big Seven Conference. “The miss was just another miss. You just have to move on and make the next play. You have to help your team on defense, get the ball and get open shots. We had the heart at the end and that was all that mattered. It’s great. For me, this was as big as Science Hill versus D-B.”In front of a large, enthusiastic crowd, Boone’s Zach Rafalowski missed on a potential game-winner from around half court at the buzzer. The overtime came after Dillon Reppart hit two 3-point goals and a jumper in the lane as Daniel Boone rallied from eight points down in the final minute of regulation to tie the game at 56-apiece.Reppart ended with 26 points to lead the Trailblazers (6-4, 1-2) in the loss.“We hate to lose and this was one of those heartbreaking games,” Boone head coach Ryan Arnold said. “I’m not mad because we played our hearts out. We left it on the floor and so did David Crockett.”It was a sentiment echoed by Crockett head coach John Good in a game which the eight-point margin was the largest all night. The lead was no more than six points for either team in the first half. Boone led 18-16 at the end of one quarter, only to see Crockett rally with a 9-0 run in the second quarter. The ’Blazers battled back at the end with Dillon Reppart hitting a jumper at the buzzer for a 31-29 Boone lead at the half.It remained nip-and-tuck with the Pioneers holding a 43-42 lead at the end of the third quarter.Ty Jones gave Boone the lead back at the start of the fourth quarter, only to be answered by Crockett’s Dustin Day and Good. The scenario played out again in overtime as Rafalowksi gave Boone the early lead only to be answered by Good and Day.“There were two teams who played hard and left everything on the floor,” Coach Good said. “Reppart kept hitting big shot after big shot and it was whoever got a break at the end. There are times when the kids are frustrated with me and I’m frustrated with them, but they work hard every day. When you work hard, good things happen to you.”Day finished with 14 points for the Pioneers, while Jones scored 13 points and Aaron Shelton added nine for the Trailblazers.“I thought all of my kids made plays when they needed to, and I thought Crockett’s kids did the same thing,” Arnold said. “They just made one more play than we did. Patrick is such a phenomenal kid, not only on the basketball court. He made plays, the other kids made plays and we just came up a little short.”Daniel Boone (girls) 77David Crockett 42Katelyn Cox scored 15 first-half points and 22 overall to lead the Lady ’Blazers (2-1, 6-2) to an easy victory over the Lady Pioneers (1-2, 3-7) in the girls’ contest. After Crockett’s Chelsea Lyninger scored the first point of the game on a free throw, the Lady ’Blazers reeled off the next 15 points to take control.Boone led 23-7 at the end of one quarter.“We’ve been doing a good job jumping out on our opponents and being aggressive,” Boone head coach Travis Mains said. “Katelyn Cox is special right now. She’s coming into her own and attacking the basket. Other than a couple of games, she’s done that all year.” The Lady ’Blazers outscored Crockett 10-1 to start the second quarter and the lead was a comfortable 48-16 at the half. Boone pushed the lead out to 67-32 at the end of three quarters for a continuous clock in the final period.Allison Littleton posted an 18-point effort and Taylor Carmichael netted 13 in the Boone victory. Taylor Campbell, Jaclyn Jenkins and Autumn Bradshaw all had five rebounds for the Lady ’Blazers who forced 21 turnovers.“We had a lot of people going after the ball,” Mains said. “We’ve been working on team rebounding. We’re small so we have to. We don’t have anyone over five rebounds, but collectively and with our turnovers, we’re getting a lot of possessions.”Lyninger had nine points to pace the Lady Pioneers, who scored their first Big Seven Conference win of the season on Tuesday night against Sullivan Central. Kaylie Foster and Heather Scalf each added seven points.“Boone will attack you and go get it,” Crockett coach Will Conley said. “I just don’t feel right now, we have that. We have it sometimes and sometimes we don’t. We have girls who can play. We’re just not consistent getting after it.”
