Man killed in shootout with police in SE Tennessee; girlfriend's body found in burned house

ETOWAH — A man whose girlfriend's body was found in a burned house has been killed after a shootout with police.The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation told The Tennessean 49-year-old David Greenwood died following the shootout Monday night with Etowah police officers in McMinn County.Police had said they wanted to question Greenwood about the blaze at a Robertson County home he shared with his girlfriend, Kim Moran. She was found dead early Sunday in the burned out residence.Deputies had been search for Greenwood since Moran's body was found.TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said the shooting happened in one of the main intersections of Etowah."An Etowah police officer attempted to pull over the subject for a traffic violation when the subject backed up his vehicle into the officer's patrol vehicle at the intersection of Highway 30 and 411 before fleeing from the officer," Helm wrote in an email Tuesday."Two additional officers in the area attempted to assist in stopping the subject when the subject drove several hundred yards and exited his vehicle with a gun. The two officers fired their weapons striking the subject."Helm said Greenwood died after being taken to a hospital.
