Short chase leads to multiple charges

Johnson City police arrested a 42-year-old man Friday on multiple charges after he allegedly led officers on a short chase through downtown.

Rondall V. Jenkins, 312 Colorado St., was charged with DUI fifth offense, driving on a revoked license fifth offense, resisting arrest, evading arrest and simple possession of schedule II and IV narcotics.

Police attempted to stop Jenkins, who was seen driving a minivan that only had one working headlight, at the intersection of Commerce and West Market streets.

Jenkins reportedly took off down West Market Street and pulled into a parking lot, where he got out of the vehicle and began running.

Police were led on a short foot chase before Jenkins was Tasered by an officer. It took a total of four officers to get Jenkins handcuffed, according to the incident report.

When Jenkins was searched, police reportedly found a cigarette box containing alprazolam, Oxycontin and morphine. A 40-ounce bottle of beer was found in the center console on the vehicle.

Jenkins told police he had consumed three or four beers, in addition to “smoking crack cocaine all day,” according to the report.

Police said Jenkins failed a field sobriety test.

After being released from Johnson City Medical Center, Jenkins was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $29,000 bond.
