KINGSPORT – It's not a good idea to fabricate stories when speaking to police – especially if you're already booked into jail for stealing a rental vehicle.
But if you really want to up the ante, throw in claims of planting bombs across two separate counties in Northeast Tennessee, forcing local law enforcement to call in the FBI while searching for explosives that don't exist.
An Erwin woman allegedly carried out such a hoax over the past week, prompting her Thursday arrest on charges of filing a false police report. She was taken into custody as she appeared in Kingsport court for her previous motor vehicle theft arrest.
According to Kingsport police records, an area manager for Enterprise Rent-A-Car contacted investigators on April 1. He stated that on March 1 Nancy L. Dull, 50, had rented a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 from the chain's East Stone Drive location. It was reportedly due back three days later, but had yet to be returned.
