ELIZABETHTON – An Elizabethton man who had previously been placed under house arrest on convictions for violent crimes was arrested late Tuesday night on numerous charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman somewhere in Johnson City and then drove the injured woman to Carter County.

Randy Wayne Johnson, 42, 1249 Bluefield Ave., Apartment E5 was arrested shortly before midnight by Deputy Nick Andes of the Carter County Sheriff's Department, following a pursuit to the intersection of Gap Creek Road and Tester Road. Johnson was charged with especially aggravated assault, aggravated domestic violence, reckless endangerment, a second offense of driving under the influence, felony evading arrest, driving on a suspended license, and possession of schedule II drug.

Johnson had previously been charged with attempted second-degree murder when he allegedly swerved his van to the right side of the road in April 2008 to intentionally strike a pedestrian, Jimmy D. Moffitt. Johnson pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated assault in that case in 2009 and was sentenced to six years probation under an alternative community-based program.

He was also placed on probation in 2005 on charges of aggravated assault when he pleaded guilty to threatening three people with a sawed-off shotgun.

Johnson is scheduled to answer the latest charges in Sessions Court on April 23.
