ELIZABETHTON – Officers from the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, the Elizabethton Police Department and a Carter County constable responded to a domestic disturbance on Clay Little Road shortly before midnight Saturday and arrested a man who was reported to be armed with a .380-caliber pistol and several knives.
Roger Scott Shore, 43, 174 Clay Little Road, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon, disorderly conduct and public intoxication. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on April 8.
Deputy Dreama Pullon of the sheriff’s department said she responded to a call about a domestic violence incident late Saturday night. When her cruiser drove up to the residence, Pullon said a woman, Kim Shore, and three small children came running out of the house.
Shore told Pullon her husband had been drinking and was still in the residence with a gun. She said he had threatened to kill her if he went to jail.
At that time, Officer Eric Buck of the Elizabethton Police Department heard all the sheriff’s department officers were busy on other calls. He obtained permission from his shift commander, Capt. Mark Bailey, to assist Pullon on the incident. Constable Tim Lyons also responded to the scene.
Shortly after their arrival, the officers spotted Mr. Shore walking toward them from the backyard. Buck said he could see a long kitchen knife sticking out of Shore’s coat pocket. Pullon said she saw another knife in the waistband of his pants.
The officers gave several orders to Shore, which he refused to obey, police said. The officers said the man kept yelling for the officers to shoot him.
Buck told Pullon to cover him while he deployed his Taser. After warning Shore, Buck fired his Taser for a five-second burst. Buck said after the first burst, Shore continued to reach for something in his waistband and Buck fired another burst. Pullon and Lyons were then able to handcuff Shore.
