ROAN MOUNTAIN – Vandals caused damage to equipment belonging to the Carter County Highway Department and the Carter County School Department this week in vandalism committed near the old abandoned Cloudland Elementary School.
Larry Street, an employee of the Highway Department told Deputy Ashley McCall of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department that the vandals had punctured tires and broken out headlights on two John Deere tractors. The damage was estimated at $1,650.
Cloudland High School Principal Randy Birchfield said the vandals damaged the shingles on the roof of the concession stand and also damaged four trash cans and a water hose. Damage to the school property was estimated at $660.
